La Peza

Casa Forestal El Nabogar, 18181 La Peza, Granada

Set on the foothills of Monte Rosado and facing the north face of Sierra Nevada, La Peza was an ancient Roman castro, whose toponym comes from the word lápice (stone), and on whose site was built the medieval fortress responsible for guarding the old road from Guadix to Granada through the Huétor Sierra.

The natural environment of La Peza is part of the Unesco World Geopark of Granada. It is an area included in the network of natural parks of the Unesco. Its extension is 4,722 km² along the regions of Baza, Guadix and Huéscar. It highlights its geological, geomorphological and paleontological wealth of the Quaternary era.

It is here where we find the Cortijo del Nabogar, an old house that belonged to the forest rangers of the mountain. It is located near the Collado de la Plata and the Cortijo del Robledal, and has been recently restored.
