Capileira – Old Town
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
The municipality of Capileira is one of the most famous villages of the Alpujarra Granadina, a place full of history and tradition. Its location is privileged, being the gateway to the Sierra Nevada National Park on its southern side.
Together with the municipalities of Bubión and Pampaneira, Capileira is part of the Historic-Artistic Site of the Barranco of Poqueira, a beautiful canyon through which the river of the same name flows. Of the three villages, Capileira is the one located at the highest altitude, with almost 1,500 meters above sea level, being the second highest village in Andalusia. From here you get wonderful views of the entire ravine and Sierra Nevada, thanks to its impressive viewpoints.
Its urban center preserves the traditional architecture of the Alpujarras and is divided into three neighborhoods, low, middle and high. The layout of its streets comes from the Arab period and shows a labyrinthine plan. Proof of this are, as well, its white houses and the numerous water fountains that emanate from the Sierra Nevada.
