Orce – Castle

The Castle of Orce, also known as the Alcazaba of the Seven Towers, is a medieval fortress of Muslim origin located in the centre of the town of Orce, in the Granada Highlands. Its construction dates back to the 11th century, although it underwent several modifications during the Nasrid period and following the Castilian conquest.

The complex has an irregular layout adapted to the terrain and consists of a walled enclosure with seven towers, a spacious parade ground and an imposing keep, which dominates the fortress and the townscape.

Its architecture combines defensive elements of Islamic origin with Renaissance alterations. Notable features include its thick rammed-earth walls, battlements, an entrance gate with a horseshoe arch and galleries connecting the towers.

The fortress retains its monumental character and offers a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as panoramic views of Orce and its surroundings.
