Freila – Castle
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
Freila is a small town in the high plateau of Granada, belonging to the region of Baza. It is located in a fertile meadow with an abundance of olive trees, fruit trees and mulberry trees in contrast to the dry and red soil that surrounds the whole area. With its semi-desert landscape, it is an area full of geographical contrasts that stands out for its cave houses, in which a large part of the population lives.
From the viewpoint located at the foot of the 16th century Parochial Church, the remains of an Arab fortress, classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest, can be seen over a small plateau. Traces of its Moorish past can be glimpsed among the remains that still stand of this monument, comprising an impressive circular tower, two walls, a water reservoir and a parapet of the wall. The tower, located inside the walled enclosure, rises to a height of 11 metres and has a circular diameter of 4.6 metres.
