Vélez Benaudalla – Canyon

Located in the last foothills of the Alpujarra, in the southwest of the province of Granada, is the municipality of Vélez de Benaudalla, with a population of 3000 inhabitants. It has a very attractive natural environment where the Moorish and Christian footprint is still imprinted in streets and squares, which have a rich historical and monumental heritage. Its routes have steep walls where climbing is a common practice.
The Vados Canyon is a deep fluvial gorge shaped by the River Guadalfeo, with rock cuts up to 100 m deep. It preserve a very particular vegetation, with plants like the Balearic Boj. It also combines wetlands, natural pools, caves and wide banks on both sides of the river. The Canyon also has recreational areas for bathing, climbing routes and caves where speleology activities are carried out, such as the Sima Redonda (Rounded Chasm) with 76 m deep and the cave of the “Barranco de Iñate” (1.5 km long).
