Vélez Benaudalla – Castle
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
Located in the last foothills of the Alpujarra, in the southwest of the province of Granada, is the municipality of Vélez de Benaudalla, with a population of 3000 inhabitants. It has a very attractive natural environment where the Moorish and Christian footprint is still imprinted in streets and squares, which have a rich historical and monumental heritage. Its routes have steep walls where climbing is a common practice.
The Ulloa Castle has its origins in the period of the Reconquest by the Crowns of Castile and Aragon. Rebuilt in the 16th century for military purposes due to its strategic location, it has the capacity to observe a large part of the region. It has an irregular 7-sided plan with walls resting on steep slopes in the highest part of the municipality. The inside is distributed over two floors, with a raised floor and an upper terrace with several elongated rooms covered with barrel vaults. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it houses the municipality’s interpretation centre.
