Valderrubio – Bernarda Alba House
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
The municipality of Valderrubio is located in the northwest of the Vega of Granada, 22 km from the capital and lying in the foothills of the Sierra de Parapanda. It is a town of contrasts, as one part is in the dry land and the other on the edge of the rich fertile plain of Granada, in the basin of the Genil River. Nowadays it is one of the richest agricultural towns in the region, with just over 300 hectares of irrigated land, divided into small plots.
The Bernarda Alba’s House is the actual house where the family that inspired Federico García Lorca’s most universal work lived.
The spaces of the house have a surprising relationship with the scenes described in the play: it is located in front of the church, has small bedrooms, a stable (adapted as an exhibition hall), a backyard, etc.
In the small inner courtyard is located the dividing well, whose water was shared by the houses of Frasquita Alba and Federico’s aunt, and through which the latter was a silent witness of conversations, plots, etc. All this, together with his portentous capacity for fabulation, turned this place into the germ of what he called Women’s drama in the villages of Spain: La Casa de Bernarda Alba (The House of Bernarda Alba).
