Sierra Nevada – University Hostel

The University Hostel Sierra Nevada “Gerardo Alonso”, owned by the University of Granada, is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters in the natural environment of the Peñones de San Francisco, above the Virgen de las Nieves ski lift and only 3 kilometers from Pradollano, the residential and service center of the ski resort of Granada. It has direct access to the Hoya de la Mora road that leads to the Pico del Veleta and the high peaks of Sierra Nevada.

It is a rationalist building designed by the architects Francisco Prieto-Moreno Pardo and Francisco Robles Jiménez, whose construction was carried out between 1933 and 1935 to create a space for the accommodation of groups of teachers and students. It currently has a capacity of 59 beds, distributed in double rooms with washbasin and multiple rooms with bunk beds, with showers and toilets in the corridor.

It is managed by the mountain guide company “Nevadensis” and has a dining room, bar-cafeteria and a large living room with fireplace. It is open all year round and is an ideal location for high mountain scenes, which can also serve as accommodation for part of the film crew.
