Purullena – Caves
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
Purullena is an agricultural and traditional municipality, known for its large number of cave dwellings. It has one of the most important archaeological sites in the province, many of them located in the Archaeological Museum of Granada.
Almagruz Caves are located in a vertical escarpment generated in sediments of fluvial origin in the valley of the river Fardes, included in an environment characterised by badlands. They are one of the most important archaeological and ethnographic areas in the Granada Geopark. They have approximately 40 holes with windows shape, some of them giving access to other chambers, intercalated according to the horizontal disposition of the rock-filled materials and arranged in several levels without creating a regular floor. Throughout history, reoccupations have modified the main structure, but the rectangular shape of most of the chambers, with flat roofs and no whitewashing, has been maintained.
