Orce – Desert

The so-called Desierto de Orce extends across the surroundings of the municipality, in the heart of the Altiplano de Granada and within the Granada Geopark. It is characterised by an arid, open landscape made up of vast plains, farmland and hills of sedimentary materials shaped by erosion.

The sparse vegetation and the ochre, beige and whitish tones of the terrain create a semi-desert landscape, characterised by wide horizons and isolated landforms. The area is crossed by rural roads and tracks, providing access to different parts of the landscape.

The landscapes of Orce played a prominent role in the filming of Intemperie (2019), directed by Benito Zambrano and starring Luis Tosar, Luis Callejo and Jaime López. The film was shot entirely in the province of Granada, using various locations in Orce and other municipalities within the Granada Geopark.
