Láchar – Castle
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
The Láchar Castle, as we know it today, is in essence the palace built by Duke San Pedro de Galatino at the end of the 19th century. Although the palace’s interior has been subject to various changes throughout the years (most of them in the late 20th and early 21st century), its original structure remains solid and recognizable. The Láchar Castle is registered as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
In 1971 the National Institute of Colonization sold the castle to Donald Leroy Brown, a Northamerican of English descent that held the title of “Lord Marton”. He left some lineage shields, made some more modifications to the inside and left a lot of furniture. Some time after, he sold the building to Herm Jan Van Asselt, a dutch man known in Láchar as “Míster Harris”.
Finally, after much effort, on June 15, 2016, for the first time in its history, it passed into municipal ownership, after being acquired by the City Council, which after carrying out the rehabilitation work has proceeded to open it to the public.
