Guadix

Paseo de la Catedral s/n 18500 Guadix

Due to its history, art and religious tradition, the Encarnación de Guadix Cathedral church is the most transcendental monument in the city of Guadix. It was built on top of the so-called Colina Sagrada (Sacred Hill), over the remains of the Visigothic Cathedral and the Arabic Major Mosque; symbolizing the passage of time and cultural diversity of the city in the last centuries. Over the centuries many architecture masters had the chance to project their knowledge and creativity on the cathedral, from Diego de Siloé in the 16th century to Vicente Acero and Gaspar Cayón in the 18th century. The building is owned by the Guadix Diocese.
