Benamaurel – River
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
Benamaurel is a municipality located to the northeast of the province, in the region of Baza. It has a population of 2,260 inhabitants and an area of 127 km². It is 121 km from the capital of Granada and is formed by a plain of dry land crossed by the valleys of the rivers Guardal, Castril (which delimits it to the west), Cúllar, and Baza (which delimits it to the southwest). Of these, the most important is the valley of the river Guardal, which crosses all the population centers of the municipality.
The Paseo de la Moraleda is a place located in the fertile valley of the Guardal river, next to its course, at the foot of the Hafas de la Moraleda, a group of medieval caves of Almohad origin. The fertile plain of the river Guardal de Benamaurel is especially unique for its network of irrigation ditches also of Almohad origin with more than 1,000 years of existence. An authentic orchard and oasis among the semi-arid landscapes of atochares predominant in the territory. Following the walk is the Senda del Guardal, a 16 km. route of great ecological value, which crosses ravines, ravines and pine forests.
