Benamaurel – Viewpoint
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
Benamaurel is a municipality located to the northeast of the province, in the region of Baza. It has a population of 2,260 inhabitants and an area of 127 km². It is 121 km from the capital of Granada and is formed by a plain of dry land crossed by the valleys of the rivers Guardal, Castril (which delimits it to the west), Cúllar, and Baza (which delimits it to the southwest). Of these, the most important is the valley of the river Guardal, which crosses all the population centers of the municipality.
The Hafas (cliff, in Arabic), are part of the historical origin of the current urban nucleus of Benamaurel. It is a structure of caves excavated in the cliff, of medieval origin, whose main purpose was purely defensive against invaders. In Benamaurel we can distinguish two different nuclei of this type of caves: the Hafas de Puente Arriba and Las Hafas de la Moraleda, on which this viewpoint is located.
Las Hafas de la Moraleda overlook, to the north, the fertile lowlands of the Guardal River, a true oasis among semi-desert lands. To the south, they are connected to the neighborhood of La Alhanda, from where these caves had an entrance. La Alhanda is a prodigy of excavated architecture worldwide.
From this viewpoint you can see a 360º panoramic view of the regions of Baza and Huéscar, as well as you can see in all its splendor the fertile valley of the Guardal river. Next is the path of the Hafas de Benamaurel.
