Castell de Ferro – Fishing area
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
The fishing area in Castell de Ferro, a village belonging to the municipality of Gualchos, is a unique space on the Paseo Marítimo (opposite the Plaza de España) which forms part of the collective imagination of the locality, as many residents have historically used this space to carry out tasks related to traditional fishing.
Nowadays, few boats still go out to fish, leaving only small boats and the wooden winches on the beach, which witnessed a great deal of activity during the 20th century, until the arrival of intensive cultivation under plastic in the mid-1980s, which transformed the local economy and employment.
This fishing area was used by the Spanish filmmaker Víctor Erice as a location for his latest film “Close Your Eyes” (2023), along with other settings in the province of Granada in the municipalities of Dúrcal, Rubite and Nigüelas.
