Valderrubio – García Lorca House
FILM IN GRANADA HELPS YOU MANAGE YOUR FILMING PROJECTS IN OUR PROVINCE
The municipality of Valderrubio is located in the northwest of the Vega of Granada, 22 km from the capital and lying in the foothills of the Sierra de Parapanda. It is a town of contrasts, as one part is in the dry land and the other on the edge of the rich fertile plain of Granada, in the basin of the Genil River. Nowadays it is one of the richest agricultural towns in the region, with just over 300 hectares of irrigated land, divided into small plots.
The building that is now the Federico García Lorca House Museum in Valderrubio is a traditional farmhouse with two floors, where the family lived between 1905 and 1909. While living in this house Federico went to school and saw the first traveling theater, which awakened his interest in this genre, the seed of his future creative vocation. Until 1926 it would also be the place where he spent his summers.
Federico García Lorca’s house was conceived to serve both as a home and as a place to store the harvest. This house was also complemented by a small annexed house where the landlords lived, of a more popular design. Both houses open onto a large and bright courtyard, in which are located other buildings such as the corrals and the old stable, now converted into a theater and a temporary exhibition hall.
