Montefrío – Convent

The Convent of San Antonio, located in Montefrío, was built between 1737 and 1763 on the outskirts of the town. The complex was originally occupied by the Franciscan Order until the Mendizábal confiscations, after which the church passed into the hands of the secular clergy and the convent became privately owned.

The various rooms of the former convent are arranged around a square cloister, characterised by semicircular arches supported by Doric columns and a fountain at its centre. Its historic architecture and the layout of its spaces provide a setting with a distinctive monumental and monastic character.
