The author has researched film sets with the help of the Provincial Federation of Hotels and Tourism and “Film in Granada”
The film sets of the province of Granada where great movies such as “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, “Doctor Zhivago” or “Once Upon a Time in The West” and mythical series such as “Black Mirror” or “Verano azul” have been filmed will be part of the tourist guide “On location: Andalusien” written by Ralf Junkerjürgen and Annette Scholz, which the German publishing house Schüren Verlag will present in October at the Frankfurt Book Fair, this year dedicated to Spain. The guide will be published in Germany and Austria, with a potential audience of 90 million readers.
The author of the guide is German Ralf Junkerjürgen, Full Professor of Romanic Cultures at the University of Regensburg (Germany) and a recognized expert on Spanish cinema. In his research trip to Granada, the author has counted this week with the support of the Provincial Federation of Hotel and Tourism Companies, which has provided accommodation, and with the management of the office “Film in Granada”, a part of the Provincial Council.
The first vice-president and provincial deputy for Culture and Historical Memory, Fátima Gómez, who received him before his return to Germany, stated that “in addition to facilitating filming for production companies and promoting professionals from Granada, we also believe it is essential to promote film tourism in our province and the publication of this guide in German is a unique opportunity that we could not miss”.
For his part, the author of the book has assured that “the province of Granada occupies a prominent place in Andalusia in the history of cinema, because it has spectacular landscapes, where the great productions of the 60s and 70s were filmed, such as ” North West Frontier”, “The Long Duel” or “The Last Run”, and more recently, good Spanish films such as “A Perfect Day” or “Intemperie”.
Professor Junkerjürgen has investigated for eleven days the main film locations of the province, from the regions of Guadix and Marquesado to the Costa Tropical, through the capital and Sierra Nevada. Among other scenarios, he has traveled through the desert of Gorafe, the castle of La Calahorra, the mountains of Huétor Santillán, the road of La Cabra, the old train track of Alquife and the cities of Guadix and Almuñécar.
