Trevélez is crowned as one of the highest villages in Spain, located at 1476 metres above sea level. Located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, its gastronomic and hospitality offer has crossed national borders thanks to its incomparable hams. Visitors can go to some of the drying sheds where they are produced.
The historic centre of this municipality has a peculiar structure, which preserves the typical Alpujarran architecture of steep streets, small white houses with plain roofs, chimneys and “tinaos”. The Siete Lagunas, the Pico del Rey or the Mulhacén are just some of the sensational natural areas that contribute to make a richer landscape in the area.

This village is divided into three neighbourhoods (High, Middle and Low), with a difference in level of up to 190 metres. The houses are perfectly adapted to the steep terrain and the climate of the area, and are arranged in narrow streets, decorated with the greenery of pots and flowers, where the memory of its Moorish past lives on.

Walking along Calle Posadas, we can find one of the numerous fountains that are distributed throughout the municipality. The Ermita Fountain has been built under a small tinao, set under a house in which the typical flowers and flowerpots of the region dress its whitewashed walls as if it were a porch. Walking up San Antonio street, after crossing under an archway, we arrive at the Lavadero Fountain, known as the Moreno fountain, in Horno street. Its enormous pipe of fresh water and its three washing troughs still remain under the porch of a house.
