The Provincial Council has collaborated in three of the selected films through Film in Granada and the Provincial Tourism Board
After the premiere of the film “Tobacco Barns” at San Sebastian International Film Fest and the award to its director Rocío Mesa, films recorded in Granada will have a prominent presence during the months of October and November at two important film festivals: Seville Festival and the Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci), where four films that have been recorded or produced in our province have been selected, three of them with the collaboration of the Provincial Council of Granada, through Film in Granada and the Provincial Tourism Board.
The first vice-president and provincial deputy for Culture and Historical Memory, Fátima Gómez, has valued this news very positively because “while the Dunia Ayaso award to Rocío Mesa and the world premiere of her film in San Sebastián are still very recent, the selection of four projects linked to Granada in two prestigious festivals such as Seville and Valladolid recognises the work we have been doing from the Provincial Council in favour of shootings and the promotion of the audiovisual sector in Granada”.
On the one hand, the Seville Festival -from November 4th to 12th- has selected in its Andalusian Panorama section the documentaries “Cante Jondo, Granada 1922” by José Sánchez-Montes and the local company “Siesta Producciones” as well as “Val del Omar, Poeta Audiovisual” by Jesús Ponce and Magnétika Films, both with the collaboration of Film in Granada, in addition to the film “Como ardilla en el agua” by Mayte Gómez Molina and Mayte Molina Romero, a fascinating essay on mother-daughter family bonds and the social demands on women. These are nothing less than three of the eight feature films competing for the award for Best Andalusian Film in this festival, which was won in 2020 by the local filmmaker Ignacio G. Merlo with “Ojalá mañana”.
Just a few days before, the Valladolid International Film Week will premiere in the Doc. Spain section the feature film “The builders of the Alhambra” by Isabel Fernández, produced by Al Pati Produccions and Polar Star Films, with the collaboration of the Provincial Tourism Board, and starring by the Egyptian actor Amr Waked. In addition, the Seminci has programmed a special screening of Jesús Ponce’s documentary about Val del Omar, which will have its official preview at the Granada Film Fest on 27 October, the day of the 118th anniversary of the birth of the local filmmaker.
